The glowing blue square of the laptop screen cast long shadows across the kitchen table at midnight. Clips played on loop: porch thieves getting hit with glitter, foul odors, and loud horns. They ran, wiped their faces, and drove away. But glitter washed out of hair in five minutes, and stink faded by morning. Sophia needed something that stayed.

John picked up his phone and dialed. It rang three times before Brian answered.

“It’s midnight in Ohio, John,” Brian said, his voice rough with sleep. “Did your ex-wife take the lawnmower too?”

“I have a neighbor problem,” John said. “She takes boxes off my porch every week. The cops won’t touch it without proof she can’t explain away.”

Brian cleared his throat. “You want a dye pack. Like a bank teller uses.”

“Can I build one?”

“Easily. You don’t need explosives. Just an aerosol valve, a spring-loaded trap, and liquid dye. Mix pigment with glycerin and isopropyl alcohol. Glycerin makes it stick to skin. The alcohol helps it penetrate fabric and steering wheels.” Brian chuckled. “If she opens the box, the spring hits the valve. It sprays six feet in half a second.”

“What kind of pigment?”

“Deep synthetic violet. It binds to keratin. That’s skin and fingernails, John. It takes days to wear off, no matter how hard you scrub.”

John wrote the details on a yellow notepad. “Thanks, Brian.”

“Send me the video,” Brian said, then hung up.
