Confrontation in the Clubhouse
HOA Karen Kept Stealing My Packages, So I Rigged Dye Traps That She Couldn’t Wash Off · Capítulo 6
At six, the clubhouse meeting room was full of folding chairs and bad coffee. Sophia stood at the front in a pink blazer, hair perfect, smile fixed in place. Robert was in the back with a legal pad and a face like he’d already billed somebody for the hour.
I raised my hand before she could start.
“I have video of you taking my package,” I said.
A couple heads turned. A woman two rows up went still with her cup halfway to her mouth.
Sophia didn’t blink. “John, if you have a concern, there are proper channels.”
“You’re the concern.”
Her smile thinned. “Packages left unattended are sometimes moved for safekeeping. We’ve had a rise in porch thefts.”
“That was on my porch.”
“That’s your interpretation.”
She looked at the room like she expected applause. She got silence.
When I got home, my phone buzzed again. Mrs. Chen.
She had sent a photo of a small red gift box, torn open. Then a message.
It was for my grandson. I called the office. They said no record. I stopped asking.
I sat there with the screen in my hand until the light went out over the sink.
Then I opened my laptop, pulled up every clip I’d saved, and started naming files by date and time. 10:14. 10:17. 10:22. Same walk. Same bag. Same pink blazer. Same house.
She wasn’t guessing.
She was counting on people being tired of arguing.
I wasn’t done yet.
