The Car Returns Home
She Had a Man Handcuffed Beside His Own Ferrari — Then He Asked One Question She Couldn't Answer · Capítulo 5
The red car arrived two weeks later on a flatbed transport.
It was a classic coupe, twenty years old, its finish the exact shade of the auto-show brochure his father had pinned behind the shop workbench. Marcus remembered two space heaters humming in the winter cold while his father traced the curves on the paper. He took one photograph of the polished hood reflecting the morning clouds and sent it to Ruth.
Her reply arrived four seconds later.
“Check tire pressure.”
Marcus smiled, slid his phone into his pocket, and walked the vehicle paperwork into the guardhouse himself. He uploaded the identification number, state title, and insurance binder directly to the Asterion Community Secure database. The gate guard stamped the physical file and handed him two RFID tags. Every asset was cataloged, signed, and approved in the system.
Yet the street remained watchful.
When Marcus idled down the stone lane that Friday afternoon, a man trimming boxwoods stopped his shears to stare. Across the cul-de-sac, curtains parted in the second-floor window of a mock-Tudor home. Marcus kept his speed at fifteen miles per hour, resting one hand on the steering wheel and rolling his shoulders back against the leather seat.
At the bend in the circular drive, a white convertible paused near the curb. Behind designer sunglasses, Victoria Sterling lowered her chin and reached for the security console on her dashboard.
