Antonio Moretti came in like he’d taken the wrong door and decided to stay anyway.

Emma saw him first because he wasn’t dressed for the room. No tuxedo. No bow tie. Just a dark coat with rain on the shoulders and leather gloves in one hand, as if he’d stepped out of a cab and into the wrong life. The ballroom went so still that even the chandeliers seemed to hold their breath.

Luca had gone rigid beside her.

That was the only warning before Isabella crossed the floor. She moved fast for a woman who’d spent the night standing like marble. Then she stopped short in front of the man and drew back her hand.

The crack rang off the mirrored walls.

Antonio didn’t even flinch. He took it, head turned, one cheek reddening under the lights.

“You let them bury you,” Isabella said.

His mouth twitched once. “They tried.”

She hit him again. Harder this time, and then she was on him, one hand gripping his coat, the other striking his chest like she could force fourteen years back into place. Antonio caught her wrists, not to stop her, just to keep her from falling apart. Her face had gone white.

“You bastard,” she said, and her voice broke on the last word.

Emma looked at Luca. He was staring at the man like the floor had shifted under him. “That’s your father?” she said.

Luca didn’t answer right away. His jaw worked once. “He was dead.”

Antonio’s gaze found Emma. It was tired, but clear. “Emma Parker,” he said. “I’m sorry I took so long.”

That almost did it. Almost made the whole room tilt.

Gabriel, still by the door, gave a dry snort. “Not dead. Hiding. There’s a difference if you’re lucky.”

Antonio nodded once. “I left because Salvatore wanted me quiet. I stayed gone because it was safer that way.”

“For who?” Luca said.

“For you,” Antonio said. “For her. For anyone who kept asking the wrong questions.”

Isabella let go of his coat like it burned her. “You should have come home.”

“I know.”

No one spoke for a beat. Then Antonio looked at Luca and said, “We go to the bank now. Before he moves whatever’s left.”

Luca slid his hand to Emma’s back, careful this time. Not a claim. A question.

She felt the heat of his palm through the fabric and nodded once.

“Midnight,” Luca said.

And just like that, the ballroom stopped being a room and became a starting line.
