And then the front doors opened.

Adrian Kane came in with one hand pressed to his ribs and a dark stain blooming under his coat. Snow clung to his shoulders. His face was pale under the lobby lights, but his eyes cut clean across the room.

No one moved.

He saw the woman first.

Then the staff.

Then the way they were already bracing to throw her out.

“Don’t,” he said.

Théo turned. “Mr. Kane, we have clients. She cannot stay like this.”

“She stays.”

Adrian crossed to the reception desk at a pace that made the room tighten. Marco Reyes appeared behind him, one hand near his jacket seam, scanning every face in the salon. Adrian set a black envelope on the marble counter.

It landed with a soft slap.

“Close the doors,” he said. “No new arrivals. No photos. No calls.”

Théo blinked once. “Sir?”

Adrian slid the envelope forward with two fingers. “Ninety thousand. The salon closes for the day. Every client gets a triple refund. Staff get full pay.”

The front desk attendant looked at the envelope as if it might bite.

“Please,” one of the younger stylists whispered, “we can’t—”

“She’s the reason I’m alive,” Adrian said.

The room changed.

Not because the sentence was loud. Because it was final.

The woman’s head lifted a fraction. Her eyes found his, then dropped to the blood seeping through his shirt.

Adrian looked at Théo. “Get towels. Water. Scissors.”

The stylist swallowed. “If we cut it, she’ll need—”

“She’ll get whatever she needs.”

The woman’s hand moved to her collarbone and stayed there.

“What happens,” she said, rough as gravel, “if you cut it off?”

Adrian answered before anyone else could.

“Then we start finding out who did this to you.”

The first sound was his own breathing.
