Chaos on the Gravel
A Waitress Stepped Between Two Thieves and an Old Biker’s Motorcycle — By Sunrise, Thirty Engines Were Rumbling Toward Her Diner · Capítulo 3
Bright high beams flooded the lot, blinding them all. Air brakes hissed like angry snakes as Dale’s big sleeper cab lurched forward out of the dark. Dale cut the steering wheel hard, swinging forty feet of truck and trailer straight across the exit drive, wedging the thieves’ red Ford completely against the chain-link fence.
“Hey!” the first thief yelled, looking back toward his trapped truck.
The diner door slammed open against the wall. Phil came down the wooden steps carrying a heavy aluminum mop handle, two truck drivers following right behind him.
The first thief lunged for Rebecca’s tire iron, trying to rip it from her fingers. She held on, her feet skidding in the loose gravel as he shoved her against the motorcycle frame.
Rooster grabbed the man’s collar from behind, jerking him backward off his feet. The thief swung a wild fist, catching Rooster across the chin. Rooster’s head snapped back, but he didn’t drop. He locked his arm around the man’s neck and hauled him down.
Dust and exhaust smoke filled the cold air. Shouts mixed with the rumble of Dale’s idling engine as the lot dissolved into a crowd of bodies grabbing sleeves and blocking doors.
The thieves were on the ground, pinned under Dale’s thick arms, but the noise in the parking lot faded the moment Rebecca heard the door swing.
It was a high, thin whistle. Like wind through a cracked window.
