The fog sat low over the water, thick enough to hide the far end of the dock. The warehouse at Pier 79 looked shut for ten years, metal ribs hunched under a film of salt and rain.

A side door groaned.

Marcus Vance came in with three men and a grin that didn’t reach his eyes. Isabella walked between them, wrists bound, red purse gone, hair dragged loose against her cheeks.

Aleandro stood near the center of the floor with Vincent Russo at his shoulder.

Marcus spread his hands. “You brought a crowd for one woman.”

Aleandro gave him a flat look. “You brought guns.”

One of Vance’s men laughed and lifted his jacket. Another shifted his weight, hand near his waist.

Marcus’ mouth tightened. “Your invitation said no guns.”

“It was a test.”

Aleandro’s voice stayed low. The warehouse answered with a drip from the rafters and the hum of a single hanging light.

Isabella made a small sound. Her eyes found his once, then dropped.

Marcus jerked the barrel of his pistol up and pressed it under her jaw. “Then let’s stop testing and start talking. You want your leak back, you listen.”

Aleandro did not move. “She’s not the leverage you think.”

Marcus barked a short laugh. “You wired the wrong woman, Moretti.”

“No,” Aleandro said. “I wired the right one.”

At that, Marcus’s grin slipped. He glanced past Aleandro, trying to count the dark corners. “You think this is a rescue? I didn’t come for her.”

“No,” Aleandro said again. “You came for documents. And you brought them.”

Marcus’s fingers tightened on the gun. “You don’t know what I brought.”

Aleandro tipped his chin toward the loader doors. “Open them.”

Nothing happened.

Marcus frowned. “What did you say?”

Behind him, a steel shutter slammed down with a shock that shook dust from the beams. Another answered at the far end. Then a third.

The room changed.

Red laser dots bloomed across Marcus’s men. One settled on a throat. Another at a knee. A third on the white space between a gunman’s eyes.

Vincent’s hand stayed near his jacket. “All exits sealed.”

Marcus whipped around, then back. “No.”

Aleandro watched him through the fog and dust. “You should have left when I invited you.”

One of Marcus’s men reached for his gun. A rifle cracked once. The weapon hit the concrete and spun away.

Isabella flinched hard against Marcus’s grip.

Marcus dragged her closer, the pistol still at her head. “One more step and she’s dead.”

Aleandro’s cheek twitched once.

Then his voice came even softer.

“Go ahead.”

Marcus stared at him.

Aleandro took one slow step forward. “Shoot her. See what it buys you.”

For the first time, Marcus’s smile vanished. He looked at the doors. The lasers. Vincent. The dark corners where men had not been standing a moment ago.

He understood.

He was boxed in.
